Many people told me their prices was less than this
any body know if this is true? Cannot we get a domain name for less than $1.99?

GoDaddy.com is the biggest one and I have my domains hosted with them. There are also LOTS of discount coupons for them as well so if you find the right one that works, you can usually get some really cheap domain names.
I also use Namecheap.com which can also be cheap if they have the right coupons.
Now, if you want to register for country specific domain names such as .co.uk, or .com.au etc, you are best to use a domain registrar from that country as they can usually get it much cheaper than GoDaddy or Namecheap.
