Question:
“I am new to website design. I want to know the best domain registration sites and the best web hosting for a freelance graphic designers website like me.”

Answer:
To have a website, you need

  1. a domain registrar to register your domain name,
  2. and a web hosting company to host your website.

So what is a web host and a domain registrar? Are they the same?

A Domain Registrar

A domain name registrar is an organization or commercial entity, accredited by a generic top-level domain registry (gTLD) and/or by a country code top-level domain (ccTLD) registry, to manage the reservation of Internet domain names in accordance with the guidelines of the designated domain name registries and offer such services to the public.
On the other hand, a web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to make their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation or Housing as it is commonly called in Latin America or France.

Useful tips:
Some domain registrars offers hosting service also along with purchasing a domain name. Some web host companies also offers free domain in their hosting plan. However, it is recommended not register your main domain with the same company simply because you don’t want all your eggs in one basket.

For one of the cheapest domain registrar, try Godaddy. It is not too much to say that any Godaddy review you read will say they are one of the best in the world.

I’m not sure what you need as a Graphic Designer when choosing a web host and buying a domain name.

I personally don’t think it’s a good idea to buy domain names and web hosting from the same company.

For domain names I use NameCheap: http://www.namecheap.com/

And for hosting I use Hostgator: http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=ybaff

I’ve used both for years because they have excellent customer service and all the features you need at very low prices.

    Hope it helps.

I am an art director and designer and I’ve had very good luck with Bargain Beaver.

Bargain Beaver (bargainbeaver.com), is a new domain company that has domains for only $1.99 a year with hosting. Their regular domain price is only $6.95–that’s more than 3 bucks cheaper than GoDaddy.

They have 24-hour customer support too, you really can’t beat the service.

I’ve used dayanahost before running my own server. Excellent customer service. http://www.dayanahost.com/

Stay away from godaddy. No customer service to speak of.
